HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN WRIST BRACE
?
It will be comfortable, affordable and easy to take on and off, yet with all the rigidity of a cast
SUPPLIES: One aluminum baking pan, at least 12 inches long
Three thin metal or plastic strips (1 inch wide, 11 inches long)
One roll duct tape (the smooth plastic type is best, it doesn’t sweat so much)
One roll Velcro stick-on tape
Soft toweling scraps
ASSEMBLY:
Flatten out the baking pan (uncurl the corners) and cut a thumb hole. Wrap
around your forearm and mold to a snug fit, flattening out the wrinkles. Cover
completely with duct tape
Note how the metal bars are positioned, one each side and one into the palm.
This is the base. Work it until it is a snug fit. Try wearing it with a bandage
strapped around until it feels comfortable
Next, make the straps, using duct tape and the soft towel inside for comfort.
Attach the Velcro and you’re ready to wear!
OK. The above could look better, but it’s my first try and I can assure one and
all that it works and feels great! (Please note, these are two different braces,
the first a new base for my left wrist, the last my right wrist brace – don’t get
the duct tape tied in knots thinking they are the same!
