In May of this year Molly and I took a little trip to Philadelphia. I had some big plans for some serious casting and had quite a bit of supplies saved up
.We left Friday night, a little later than I had hopped due to some babysitter problems. This is normal for these weekends away it seems. We got a motel and had a great night together, there were no casts yet though, but that changed the first thing Saturday morning.
When Molly finally got up and around in the morning she got casted. Guess what she got. You guessed it, a plaster LLC. After a little while I figured it was dry enough to take her out and away we went. We went downtown to the historic section of Philadelphia.
Molly doesn't care much for crutching, so I had recently purchased a used wheelchair I had seen in the newspaper. We parked in a parking ramp and I got out the wheelchair and got her situated in it. The wheelchair has elevated leg rests so I could prop her cast up so I could see it good as I pushed her around. We toured around the historic sights, saw the liberty bell, whoo hoo! and soon got board. I had heard there was a music festival in town that weekend so I asked a cop there how to get there. He said its right down the street about 8 or 9 blocks. We thought about driving but figured parking would be a problem, and seeing we had the wheelchair we decided to walk/roll there. Going was fine, it was down hill, but the return was a little difficult. I'm not complaining mind you, pushing a girl with a huge plaster leg cast around in a wheelchair is not something I would ever complain about. The festival was great, the weather was great, people all over, good music, and Molly in her big cast. We really didn't get much reaction from people though, like I had expected.
Early afternoon we decided we had seen enough of that. On the way back to the truck we were discussing what to do with the rest of the day. I of coarse wanted to do some major publicing, showing off my beautiful casted lady to the world. Molly however, not being big on the publicing stuff had other ideas of spending the rest of the day in the motel room. I really love publicing, but, I can't say the thought of spending an evening in the privacy of a motel room with my casted wife is unappealing. Of coarse with all the casting supplies I had brought it was very likely that one leg cast was not all she would end up with today.
I gave Molly a choice. We could go back to the motel for a little "break" then it was off for shopping, dinner, and a movie. Basically some very extensive publicing. Or....we could go back to the motel, and put her into a hip spica and stay in for the night. She had to think about this for awhile. But she finally decided she wanted to stay in.
Wow, I have wanted to do a hip spica on her forever. No it was time, and I really didn't know how I was going to do it by myself. I really only had enough plaster to do it. Plus she already had a LLC which I kid of wanted to use for part of it. To make a long story short, it worked. It was hard to do, but it worked. I had her stand along the wall near a cloths rack and hold on to that while I turned her LLC into a 1 1/2 hip spica. I did use about 4 rolls of 5" fiberglass to strengthen the hip area, I think that was a good idea. When I got done her cast was very thick, more than I like, And it also was not as neat as I try to make them. There was just too much area to keep up with when trying to smooth it out. It was however very effective. She was totally helpless and dependent on me. I would love to go one and tell you all what we did all night, but it would not be appropriate. Besides, I'm sure you all can imagine.
As with just about all Molly's casts, about the time she is ready to go to sleep, the cast must go. I really hadn't expected her to sleep in it but it still broke my heart to take that cast off. I got it off some time after midnight. I would guess she had it on for 8 hours or So.
The cast worked great. I had fun flipping her over, and moving her around, from the bed to the sofa, watching how most her body moved as one solid mass. And seeing how helpless she was. Even Molly admitted that she enjoyed the cast and would do a hip spica again. Next time I'm going to do it in Fiberglass though.
That was really a great day of casting. I still had Sunday to look forward to. Molly had no idea what I had planned. I had a bunch of fiberglass yet to use. Day Two
