My wife has been aware of my attraction to casts for sometime now ,but Only recently have I discussed recreational casting with her. Elizabeth is a wonderful wife and mother and I knew I could talk to her about it without her thinking I was insane. As it turns out, she thinks its "cute" as she puts it.
A number of years back she injured her left ankle and went to the emergency room. Diagnosed with a sprain and a possible fracture she was sent home with an elastic bandage on her foot and a pair of crutches. Much to my delight she spent the better part of the next couple of weeks Walking on crutches, but the bandage didn't quite satisfy me. Her ankle healed sufficiently and too soon for me the crutches were stored away.
Perhaps a year later she turned her ankle again only this time she refused to go to the emergency room. I retrieved the elastic bandages and just as I was preparing to wrap her foot I suggested that perhaps a cast would be better. The idea seemed to appeal and of course I knew of a pharmacy where I could purchase plaster bandages and I was off. In a short time I was back with the supplies, a roll of cotton and several extra fast setting plaster of Paris bandages. Soon I had her foot in my lap wrapping it with cotton padding. As I was rolling and smoothing the plaster she sensed my delight and said to me, "You like doing this. Don't you?" I told her I did indeed like it, and that was the first time I had let on to anyone my enjoyment of casting.
She spent the next three weeks walking on crutches and tolerating me taking a few pictures all of which I still have. Reluctantly I cut her cast off and that was the end of our first casting experience together.

I have worn casts since then for a fractured ankle and she enjoyed taking care of me, waiting on me hand and foot. Only recently have I talked openly with her about recreational casting, and I am now comfortable talking with her about it. We just recently had our first recreational casting weekend getaway with Elizabeth being the castee. I made arrangements with relatives to care for the kids so we could have a weekend away. Elizabeth knew she would be casted for the weekend as this is what the weekend was planned for. She was concerned about walking into the hotel unimpaired and then being seen later with cast and crutches so I put the old plaster cast that I had kept on her foot and secured it with an elastic ankle support and covered it with a sock.
Once settled in our room we took off the makeshift cast and I got out the new supplies. My original intent was to cast her in a long leg cast but she was not exactly thrilled about the idea of the being quite so impaired. I'm sure I could have had my way but she was being so good about the whole Idea of casting that I agreed to a short leg cast so she could still have use of her knee.
I have used a lot of plaster and as everyone knows it is messy no Matter how careful you are. This was the first time I used fiberglass and though it is more expensive it is now my first choice.
We put a towel down on the floor and Elizabeth sat in a chair and I filled a plastic pan with warm water. I slipped the stockinette over Liz's foot and up to her knee and trimmed it off just beyond her toes. Then I opened the first fiberglass roll, and starting at her ankle, wrapped it around and down under her foot. Overlapping per the instructions I continued around her foot to just before her toes and started back up her foot and around her heel and ankle until the roll ran out. I opened another roll and continued from where I had left off up to just below her knee and back down around her ankle and foot. I pulled back the stockinette over the cast opened a third roll. Starting at her toes I began rolling the fiberglass over the pulled back stockinette and again worked my way around her foot and ankle, continuing up her leg covering the stockinette just below her knee, back down her calf until the third roll ran out. I smoothed it out and on my very first attempt with fiberglass, Liz's foot was now in a perfect professional looking fiberglass cast. There was no mess at all. The only problem was that I didn't have her hold her foot at a 90 degree Angle so she couldn't exactly walk without the crutches. I had brought along a cast shoe to make it a little easier on her. So to my delight she spent she had to use crutches to walk. The next day ,however, I cut off the cast and applied another one making sure to have her hold her foot at 90 degrees so she could use the cast shoe if she so desired. She doesn't mind wearing a cast but she doesn't like to use crutches but is willing to do so for me. I will compromise with her though since she has so willingly accepted my hobby and she was the one in the cast. But I'm reasonably sure that she enjoys wearing them. After all, an attractive woman in a cast, and especially one using crutches commands much attention.

We went out and among other things went to dinner in crowded restaurants and Elizabeth was quite comfortable. She is a wonderful lady and I wouldn't trade her for anything cast or no cast.
Our first recreational casting weekend came to an end all too soon. It was great fun and most enjoyable for both of us. Due to responsibilities, obligations and kind our cast outings will be few and far between, but as Elizabeth said, if we did it all the time it wouldn't be as much fun. We already have tentative plans for her next cast.

I hope to get her to write down her thoughts about it all to share her point of view as the wife of a recreational caster.
