The second Sonya set foot in the hospital waiting room she noticed how busy it was. There were very few seats open, the waiting room was lined with every type of patient possible. Sonya limped to the front desk and signed in. She had enjoyed very much the past four crutch less weeks. When applying Sonya’s short leg cast Dr. Rose graciously applied a walking heel to the bottom. "Sonya!" Someone in the waiting room called her name. She slowly scanned the crowd looking for the culprit. A cute college aged girl was motioning for her to come over and sit in the vacant seat next to her. As Sonya got closer she noticed it was Leigh. "We have to stop meeting like this." Sonya joked taking the seat next to Leigh. Leigh giggled, "Getting your cast off?" "Yeah, It’s been a long 14 weeks." Sonya lifted up her skirt to show Leigh the signature less black walking cast she had been sporting for the past month. "It’s a great feeling." Leigh assured Sonya. She wasn’t going to doubt a veteran of casts like Leigh. "Why are you here?" Sonya looked over what appeared to be a healthy Leigh. "Oh my roommate Alecia fell a couple days ago, and they’re putting her in a cast today. So far she’s handled it pretty well for being her first broken bone. See here she comes." Sonya couldn’t get over the timing of things that happened when she saw Leigh. Sonya’s mouth dropped when she saw the nurse pushing Alexia toward them. Initially Sonya noticed that Alecia had to be at least 6’1". As they got closer it was then that Sonya noticed how gorgeous Alecia was. She was undoubtedly a super model. "Cute color." Leigh touched the shin of Alecia’s light pink full leg cast. The cast seemed to go on forever. Alecia was all legs. "Thanks." Alecia giggled as she wiggled her very long toes. Sonya thought she had long toes; they were stubby compared to Alecia’s. Surprisingly despite being so long her toes still maintained their beauty, especially with the shiny purple nail polish she wore. "Alecia this is Sonya, that woman I told you about. Sonya this is my best friend Alecia." Sonya and Alecia smiled and shook hands. After being introduced, Leigh made a comment about getting Alecia ready for a date, just before they left. Sonya had nothing but respect for Alecia for going out on a date after being put in a cast such as hers. After looking around the room Sonya realized it was going to be quite some time before she was called back. She was still in shock that after 14 weeks she was about to be cast free. It seemed like that was never going to happen. She loved being casted, but after a while it just wasn’t practical. Kacey had teased her frequently that next time she should go for the ankle or foot. Something simple like that. The past month and a half had seemed to fly by. It had only been two weeks after Jaclyn’s birthday before her purple cast was reduced to a smaller black cast to her knee. That same day was prom. She enjoyed all the looks she got when she strode into the prom with George and a black walking cast. She could see all the guys in the room grow erect simultaneously. Eric seemed to follow her around the whole night, until she finally agreed to dance with him. It was only a matter of weeks before Sonya found herself sitting on the hot football field next to Carolyn listening to Jim Dunbar drone on, and watching her students graduate. David had even called to catch up on how Sonya’s life was going. He informed her that he and Linda had recently been married, like she actually cared. He found it so amusing that Linda hobbled down the aisle in a walking cast. Which was removed when they returned home from their honeymoon. It was then that they found out Linda was pregnant. Sonya felt very sorry for David. Linda was bitchy enough when she was in a good mood, but how was she going to be pregnant? The next nine months were definitely going to be miserable for David. Even Jaclyn seemed to have changed in the span of a month and a half. Aside from the day Sonya got her cast changed, the night Jaclyn stood Sonya up had been the last time they slept together. She only came over once a week for a short period of time to just talk, and she seldom called. It was as if they didn’t know each other anymore, it seemed like Jaclyn had trouble making any sort of eye contact, as if she had something to hide. She was just another student again. For some reason Sonya spent her days clinging to the possibility that one day Jaclyn would show up on her doorstep wanting everything to go back to the way it used to be. "Ready?" George’s voice startled Sonya. "Of course." Sonya smiled weakly thinking about Jaclyn. As Sonya followed George back to the cast room, she realized that she never once saw Dr. Rose’s clinic. Every time she had come in, it was to the hospital, not to her clinic. "Look who’s wearing their Sunday best for us." George always had to make an entrance. "Hush you." Sonya swatted at George. She was wearing a blue top with a low cut neckline, a long blue skirt with floral prints on it, and her favorite strappy sandal that showed off most of the foot. She had the matching left sandal in her purse. "Nice to see you Clarice." Sonya hopped up on the exam table. "I wasn’t going to miss this for the world." Clarice pinched Sonya’s toes when limping by. "How’s the leg?" Sonya noticed a cam walker on Clarice’s once broken leg. "Good. This is my last week in this." Sonya would have paid to see Clarice in her plaster full leg cast. "Ready?" Dr. Rose looked at Sonya with the saw in hand. "Yep." Sonya said excitedly. Clarice held Sonya’s skirt away from the saw as Dr. Rose began sawing the outside of Sonya’s foot. "Nice ring." Sonya noticed what looked like an engagement ring pm Dr. Rose’s left hand. "Thanks." Dr. Rose obviously didn’t want to focus on the subject. "Don’t mind her she’s just pretending not to be excited about being engaged. "Shut up George." Dr. Rose blushed. "He works here too." Clarice added. "Also very very cute, and loves casts as much as she does." George added as Dr. Rose finished sawing the line on the outside of Sonya’s leg. "Would the both you shut up?" Dr. Rose started on the inside of Sonya’s foot. They were telling the truth though. Maria would never forget how Cameron proposed. He made her a great dinner, but unbeknownst to her he slipped something in her drink, and she passed out in the middle of dinner. When she woke up the next morning she found herself in a plaster full leg cast and full arm cast. On her second toe was a small gold toe ring, and it was then that she noticed on the foot of the cast was written, "Will you marry me?" She then looked at the full arm cast on her left arm; all of her fingers were casted except her ring finger. On the ring finger was an engagement ring with a huge diamond. When she gave Cameron his answer of "yes" he removed the arm cast. She begged him to leave the leg cast on though. Every time they had sex that weekend she stared at the "will you marry me" while he thrust hard into her. She couldn’t wait for the honeymoon. Cameron was going to fulfill her life long dream of being pampered in a full body cast. "All done." Maria turned the saw off. She couldn’t wait to get home to Cameron. Sonya closed her eyes while George removed the two halves, and Clarice cleaned the dead skin. "You can open them now." Maria finished drying Sonya’s leg. "Wow." Sonya wasn’t that surprised with the hair, but it bothered her that her once beautifully toned calf was not skinny. "It’ll be stiff for about a week. Try not to do too much with it, or else you’ll be back here being put in a cast." While the concept was mildly appealing Sonya definitely didn’t want another cast so soon. Sonya grinned happily feeling the wind blow through her hair, and caress her face. It was a nice feeling having control of her car again. She didn’t like working the clutch with a walking cast at all. Sonya felt so liberated. The smallest thoughts were pleasing her. She could now wear shoes on both feet, she could wear two legged jeans again, and she could take baths without having to keep her leg out of the water or put a bag over her cast in the shower. It felt awkward celebrating without Jaclyn in the passenger seat talking about whatever came to mind. She knew Jaclyn was busy getting ready to go to Berkley in a week. Why she was going to California was beyond her, but she was happy for her regardless. "What the…" Sonya noticed a black Explorer parked in her driveway as she turned the corner. "Sonya?" She heard Blue’s voice from the garage door as she turned the car off. "Hey sweetheart. Sorry I wasn’t home I was at the doctor getting my cast off." Sonya was thrilled to finally be able to say that. She also noticed that instead of blue arm cast Blue was wearing a removable brace on her wrist. "No problem." Blue looked down at Sonya’s feet observing that her left leg was now cast free. "Everything okay?" Blue wasn’t her usual hyper self. "Everything’s fine. I just came to say goodbye." Blue was obviously trying not to cry. "Good-bye?" Sonya grew somewhat worried. "My label wants me on their summer tour ASAP. I’m gonna miss you." The tears streamed down Blue’s face. "Aww I’m going to miss you too." Sonya hugged Blue tightly. She had always considered Blue her honorary daughter. "I promise I’ll send you postcards and stuff." Blue wiped away the tears from under her eyes. "Do you want to come in?" Sonya offered. "No, thanks anyway though. I have to get going soon. One last thing though." Blue paused. "Okay." Sonya didn’t know what to expect. "I can’t believe I’m doing this," Sonya didn’t know where Blue was going with this, "I know about you, Jaclyn, and everything that went on. I also know what’s been going on lately. I think its really fucked up how she’s been treating you, but there’s someone else." Sonya had suspected that when she learned that Jaclyn dumped Eric right after graduation. "She didn’t treat you like this because of something you did. She just doesn’t know how to deal with this. She’s confused, and we all know Jaclyn doesn’t always make the best decisions, but everything she had done has been out of love. I know that sounds pretty shitty, but I think you’ll be a lot happier if you just move on. I know I had trouble doing it, but I’m happier now because of it." "Move on?" Sonya sat in her living room letting Blue’s heart felt speech sink in. The more she thought about it, the righter Blue was. When David left her, she moped around the house dwelling on the fact that her David wasn’t there. Then Jaclyn came along and took her mind off of David. Blue was right. If she wanted to be happy she would just have to move on, this time without Jaclyn.
