When Steve reached the main entrance, Michelle was already waiting for him. He took a moment to admire this lovely lady. She was tall, slim and her legs were definitely one of her best features. Steve guessed that in any other circumstances, she was probably a very strong, independent woman but today, she seemed so vulnerable with those crutches and the cast on her foot. He walked quickly towards her. "I hope I didn't keep you waiting too long". "Are you kidding? It took me forever to get here. I'll never get used to these crutches". "Don't worry about that. You'll get the hang of it in no time" Steve said with encouragement. He escorted the young woman to his car and helped her settle in. On the way to her apartment, Steve learned that Michelle was a lawyer and that she moved to town right after breaking up with her boyfriend. Ten minutes later, Steve parked his blue Honda right in front of her building. He retrieved Michelle's crutches from the back seat and watched closely as she tucked them under her arms. "You've been very kind to me, Dr Jansen, and I'd hate to impose but... could I ask you one more favor?" "Anything and please, call me Steve". "I live on the third floor and of course, there's no elevator. Can you help me up the stairs? I'm not very steady on these crutches yet and I don't want to end up with another broken leg!". Steve couldn't say no to her. He opened the door and followed her inside. At the bottom of the stairs, she handed him the crutches. Shyly, she put her arm around his shoulder and in turn, he took her by the waist. Steve enjoyed watching Michelle hop on her good foot. At the top of the stairs, he gave the crutches back to her and advised her to get some rest. "Thank you so much. You've been very kind to me. Would you like the come in for a drink? It's the least I can do. There is one condition though... I'm afraid you'll have to pour it yourself". "Hey, no problem ! And you know what ? For the same price, I'll even serve you one!" Steve said, happy to see a smile on her pretty face. Once inside, Michelle hobbled toward the sofa, and sat down, tired of all this crutching. Steve sensed that her ankle must be painful and needed to be elevated. "Where's your bedroom?" he asked without thinking. "What??". Michelle stared at him, her eyes wide open. "Hey I'm sorry... I didn't mean anything by that. I just wanted to get a pillow for your ankle". "Oh, that's better! For a minute there, I thought you wanted to take advantage of a poor helpless woman. The bedroom's that way". When he came back, he lifted her casted ankle and slowly propped up her foot, her toes still teasing him... Michelle and Steve got to know each other a little bit better that afternoon. She told him about her law career and why she'd decided to leave everything behind, not so long ago, to relocate in a new city. She told him about her former boyfriend who cheated on her a few times. Even if she had known Steve less than an hour, she found it easy to confide in him. He was a good listener and his interest in her life seemed genuine. She asked him about his work as a doctor and if he made an habit of driving injured female patients back to their house! Steve assured her that this was the first time he's ever done something like that and that he was happy he could be of help. As Steve was about to leave, Michelle asked him if they could see each other again. "Can I call you in a day or so ? We'll set up something for the end of the week". Steve was walking on air when he got home. That night, he didn't need to count sheeps to fall asleep. All he could see was Michelle and her sexy casted foot...
Steve was back to work on Tuesday, Michelle never far from his mind. He was certainly looking forward to see her again. "I'm a lucky man" he reflected to himself. Little did he know that fate was about to intervene a second time ! He heard the woman scream in pain, just as she was entering the hospital. She was laying on a gurney, her left leg in a splint. An ordely informed him that this young lady had been hit by a car on her way to work. Unfortunately, before he could make a move, one of his colleagues was already examining her. An hour later, he was passing by a cast room when he noticed the woman who was brought in with a badly broken leg. He took a quick peek inside but that was enough to bring attention to himself. "Hi there. Come on in, I'm bored by myself". Steve tried not to stare at her leg but the big white cast made that impossible. "How long will you have to wear this cast?". "Eight weeks, but they're already talking about another four weeks in a shorter one. That's what you get these days when a careless driver breaks your fibula in two places! ". "You've been very lucky, you know. Not that many people get away with only a broken leg after being hit by a car". "Hey, don't think I'm complaining because I've always wanted one of these. I think casts are cool and besides, I heard they drive men a little nut. What's your name?". "I'm Steve Jansen and you are?". "Reena. So, is it true what they say?". "I beg your pardon?" Steve looked puzzled. "Do casts drive men crazy? Or maybe it's the crutches... Anyway, I can't wait to get out of here and find out for sure. Ouch, I have an itch on my toes, can you scratch them for me?". This couldn't be happening, Steve thought. Two lovely women in leg cast asking for his help? Being a gentleman, Steve obliged and rubbed Reena's toes. They were warm and soft... "So, doctor, are you single? I'm still looking for the right man and my mom always told me I'd marry a doctor someday". Reena was certainly very forward. And pretty, too. She had short black hair and her blue eyes were riveted into his. "Yes, I'm single. Well, if you'll excuse me, I have patients to see. Good luck to you". Steve left in a hurry, his heart pounding in his chest. This was too much, those casted women would kill him before he reached 40 ! The rest of the day went by quickly for Steve. As he was about to leave, a nurse told him he had a message at the front desk. It read: Single white female looking for a nice doctor to take good care of her. Cast and crutches included. If you're interested, please call Reena at 555-6498 to set up an appointment. "Dr. Jansen, I have a call for you on line two, somebody named Michelle...". Man, life was good!
