My Casting Adventures 1

Fiber short leg walking cast: Trip to Mississippi

I started off wanting a lac/slwc combo for my out-of-town adventure but decided on just a slwc this time. I ended up going to two malls (pix 1-7; pix 8-11). After all that walking we went back to the hotel room, relaxed and drank a few beers. Unfortunately so far there were no comments about the cast. I guess a slwc is somewhat easy to overlook. But at one mall (pix 1-7) we saw a teenage guy in a black halo brace walking around with ease.

Day two we went to a music store and I browsed (with mouth open) at the guitars they had and tried a few out. Pic #12 shows me playing a Taylor guitar. The acoustic room was empty so we thought that'd be a good place to take a picture. It was a very fun adventure, being in a strange town eases some nerves. Next time I will go bigger.

Looking at a few pictures: In the second picture I thought a pic of me in front of Victoria Secret would be interesting. A note about the pic of me on the escalator, the guy with the halo was right behind ANON (taking the pic). The flash (which can't be turned off) was so obvious that we didn't think it'd be too kosher to take a pic of the guy, and also he was a bit young (14 I’d say). You can see (pic 4) how I measure up to Jar Jar Binks. Pic 5 is for Lissa (can you see the movie next to my cast?). And of course a pic of me drinking, what else? beer, after a hard day of limping. The only comment I got was from the guy that let me play a Parker guitar asked me how I broke it. I told him I stepped in a hole on the golf course. Nothing else was said.

Two short leg casts in fiber and plaster: Three day adventure

4/23/99 First day of my weekend two short leg cast adventure. One cast is plaster; one cast is fiberglass. Can you tell the difference? :) The plaster cast looks very white compared to the fiberglass.

Plaster Short Leg Walking Cast

3/12/99 Pictures of my all natural short leg walking cast. I used cotton padding, stockinette and plaster. These are just pictures around my apartment. The weather was terrible today, cold and rainy. Maybe tomorrow it will improve and I can public some. This is my first cast with a heel (I didn't apply it though).

Plaster Short Leg Cast: Worn 10/20-10/22

My bearded self, wearing a plaster short leg cast. Nice cast, worn too short a time. I added a roll of purple fiber to this cast later on but didn't take pictures of it. I also put a fiber slc on ANON (my cast buddy). He only wore it for a few hours (last picture). (I'm now clean shaven hehe)

My infamous stitches cast

08/10/98

The four pix below are of a cast I did this weekend. It goes from just the end of my toes to just below my calf. It's an odd cast that has no realistic purpose I'm sure. But the angle of the ankle allowed me to crutch for the two days I wore it. Removing this cast was where the adventure began. See the fifth pic for details on the adventure.

This is a picture of my ankle after I removed the cast. I'm almost ashamed to show this or tell about this, but I feel it's important so future casters know the dangers of removing a cast and what precautions they can take.

I was almost finished with removing my cast. I was using a utility knife and was cutting along the area marked by the X's, when the utility went through the padding and cut my ankle. It didn't bleed much at first, and I didn't realize the damage until the cast was off. I knew I probably need stitches, so I called a cab (it was 2:30am) and went to the ER. I got about 5 stitches and told a pretty good lie about what happened. I still can't believe how careless and stupid I was. I don't have very good eyesight, but this has never happened before. I was in too great of a rush and used too little padding below the cast. So a lesson to all- TAKE YOUR TIME AND DON'T BE STINGY ON THE PADDING!.

Plaster Short Leg Cast 2

2/23/03

This is probably the ugliest plaster cast I've done. I only had 4 rolls of 5" to do it, and the rolls were a bit old ans splotchy. It felt great though. I wore this from 4/1 - today (4/5).

Short Leg Plaster Cast

3/28/03

My most recent adventure. I had a plaster short leg cast and wore it for 3 days.

Ankle Cast

Used one roll of 2" fiber for this little ankle cast.

Black Short Leg Cast

2/23/03

Shortened slc from the above llc. I have a new accoustic now (Taylor 412) and a new electric (Ibanez JEM 7D).

Purple/Pink/Blue Short Leg Cast

My black long leg cast I had about a month ago.

Blue Short Arm Cast

Just a simple blue short arm cast

You can't see it very well in the pictures, but this cast matches the grey (Kastmart) almost exactly. The grey fiber is really pewter. This is the best slc I've ever worn. Techform is amazing tape.

I added another green slc to the one below, with some white poly tape underneath. I used the dry method on the poly so no rash (that's a good tip). I prefer wearing one cast but it's fun to wear two. I wore this the first day Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix came out. Great book.

The green is Scotchcast. And with this cast I only used the green Scotchcast. This was a very good cast, and my first time using green.
