A casters dream came true, the day that he met Bob Caster, he is known world wide for his website PLASTER OF PARadISe casting page. I called him on the phone from Houston one night while chatting with him on mIRC #castroom. I told him that I was going to be taking some time off the road, so I could come to San Antonio to meet him, but had to go to Austin first, to settle things with my boss, while I was there I arranged for EJcast to come over to the motel so I could meet him, and when he came I couldn't believe it, he brought all of his pictures, and we looked at his pictures then he had to go back home.
The next day or so were spent organizing and introducing myself on the phone to Bob, so he wouldn't feel like he was letting a stranger come to his house. When he finally allowed me to come down from Austin, I got in my little pickup, and headed down here, and when I got here, Bob opened the door, and said you must be Brian, I said, Yep, and you must be Caster, he said you got it, come on in. He showed me around the place, took less than 5 minutes, I stayed in the bedroom the longest starring at his big pile of llwc's and a few llc's and 2 lac's. Oh, and as it was at the time, I had to wade through everything on the floor! It was worse than a pig pen. Now looks like a real place that you would invite your mom too!
Bob, asked me what I wanted and I told him, I would like 2 llc's and he said, well lets put 1 llc on you for now, and I said ok. He said great, when do you want me to start, and I said, NOW, so he said, ok and he did his work. I was amazed even by the way he put the stockinette on my leg, I could of sworn that he was a doctor! Then after he put the stockinette from my crotch down to covering up my toes, he then started wrapping my leg in cotton, it felt great. Then in no time that was over, he then said, now for the good stuff, and I said oh, yeah! He started at the ankle, and wrapped down to my toes then went back up and then back down making like a base for the llc. He let that set for a bit, then he started with a fresh roll starting from where he left off and went up to where the roll stopped and got a fresh roll, he continued wrapping roll after roll, then he folded back the stockinette reaviling my little toes way down there at the end of the white dream, he also folded down the stockinette down at the top of the cast too. I felt the warmth that came from the fiber warming up from setting it felt great!
I've felt this before when I applied casts on myself before, but it's better to have a casting partner who can help, it's a different ballgame, you're just sitting back relaxing while he/she does all the work! The blame ain't your responsibility that way!:) We, let it set real good before I put any weight on it about 5 minutes. I just plopped back down on the couch and admired Casters work! It felt great the cast, the cast looked real good, and I knew then that I was gonna enjoy this cast as well as meeting the famous Caster! After the cast set, I hopped up and we started taking pictures, so the memories could start. We then, went to the store to do some publicking, getting down the stairs was fun, I had to be careful or I would tumble.
I took the crutches and started hobbling on them like a pro. I crutched to my little truck, I got in the drivers seat, and it felt funny having to drag my left leg in the truck, but I got it in there. All I could do is just stare down at my cast. When we went to the grocery store, I used the electric cart, had a good ole time. When we were done and heading back to Bobs house he told me that I acted drunk. That I looked like I was totally enjoying myself. The bottom of the cast had already gotten soft from where I touched my cast down. I told Bob that I wanted a heel put on, so he did. He made a slab, which is a roll of fiber, folded the length of the bottom of the foot, and pushed it on the bottom of the cast, and wrapped a few layers, then put the heel on there and then it was on!
Since it was a hard first day, I drifted off to sleep. When I woke up the next day and looked down I was like, wow it's still there it wasn't a dream! I just laid there in bed, staring at the llwc, trying to bend my leg, but I couldn't bend it. I just laid there and let it soak in, that I was actually doing this.(continued) The second day was cool, I started cleaning up around the place, and it didn't seem to bother me that my leg was in a cast. Later on during the day, Bob and I went out plubicking again, and took some more pictures. A few people would stare at me and all I could do was grin and say, if they only knew how much fun that I was having. I kept doing what I do best. Showing off my talents of being a caster and crutching around on my crutches. The weekend turned into Monday, and Monday turned into Friday.
When Friday afternoon rolled around, I asked Bob if he would put my other leg in a cast tomorrow, and he thought about it, tried to talk his way out of it, but I wouldn't let him. Saturday morning came, and I got the supplies ready, and then when I got ready for him to take my leg away from me, I was ready to see it felt like to wear 2 llwc's. I've seen it before when I was little, but I wanted to see what the people who were in 2 llc's felt like. I was soon going to find out. I plopped down on the couch, and told Bob that I was ready, and he said, are you sure you want to do this? I replied yep, sure do, and with that I grabbed the gloves and took a pair and gave Bob a pair, and handed him the stockinette and then I just sat back and watched as my leg disappeared beneath the white stockinette. Next, came the cotton, and I stared at my already casted leg and in no time flat, my right leg was casted! I couldn't believe it, both of my legs were now encased in long white fiberglass casts! I felt a shudder come over me when I first tried to move anywhere, and thought that I might have to change my mind. But, it wasn't that hard at all once I got use to it.
I cleaned up all the trash from making the cast. Then, I handed Bob the camera and started posing, for some more pictures. I felt like I was meant to have both of my legs in casts! I was walking, dancing, moving around like it was second nature to me. Everytime I looked down at my casts, it looked like the only thing that I had left of my legs were the little toes sticking out and when I wiggled them, it looked funny! Then Bob would see me laying on the couch with my casts sticking over the end of the couch he'd sneak up and start tickling my toes. I couldn't do anything to stop him from tickling me except to turn over and get him to stop either that or smash his hands with the casts.(continued)
When we went out on my first publicking with 2 llwc's on I was a little scared to go down the stairs with the casts on. I worked up the confidence and just held on to the handrails and started off slow, moving 1 leg down then the other, as I went down the stairs, I got faster and better at it. We arrived at the H.E.B. this was the store that Bob had worn a clc, earlier that week that I applied the day after getting my 1st llwc. I got out of my truck, and grabbed my crutches, Bob was already there ready to take pictures of me getting out of the truck. He parked close to the door so, I wouldn't have to crutch that far, I was a pro on them crutches. Once inside a sacker at the door he said would you like a cart? I said, sure he said, ok I'll get one for you, and he brought the cart and took my crutches and put them behind the counter. I positioned my 2 llwc's on the cart and sat down, I was in there like a glove. While we were shopping, I was getting a lot of stairs and a few people would come up to me and ask me what happened, and some would say I usually try and break 1 leg at a time.
When it was time for us to check out, the girl behind the register stared at my casts, and the other cashiers looked at me and asked what happened, and I just told them that I was a passenger in a car accident, and they said oh, that has to suck, and I said, well I'm getting use to it now. The guy who was our sacker, was the one that took mine and Bobs picture last week in the parking lot, on the way out to the truck, he asked me, what happened, last week when ya'll came your friend had a cast and you just had one on your leg, now both of them are casted. I was like well, he had a cast for surgery on his knee, and I broke my other one falling down the stairs. I knew that he must know that either I had the cast put on or I was really clumsy and broke my leg.
I was having so much fun in my 2 casts, I was really getting the hang of having 2 llwc's on my legs, it was like natural for me to be wearing them. Each day I'd have Bob put the cast covers on my casts so I could shower. By this time the casts were getting dirty. We heard that Def Leppard were going to be in town at a wal mart, so we went to that, when we got there, their were cars parked everywhere, on the grass in the parking lots next door, up and down the street. I told Bob just pull up here in the grass, and when we parked he got the wheelchair out of the back and I got in it, and we proceeded to go up to the parking lot, man there was people everywhere! I told Bob, that we needed to make our way up to the front near the stage or it was going to be impossible to see anything. So, I told Bob, follow me. I wheeled my way through the crowd and when we made our way up to the front, there was this group of people that said, hey why don't you ask the security personnel if you can go back stage. So, I got their attention and asked them if we could go sit back stage and he said sure, and opened the makeshift gate, and I wheeled my way to the back.
When I got back there, I saw this 1 guy that was sitting in a wheelchair, and had a slc on his leg, and I asked him what happened to him, and he said, I had surgery. He then asked me what happened to me, and I told him that I was a passenger in a car accident, and I got to talking to him and his wife, and Bob took some pictures of us, and then we were waiting for Def Leppard to come out, and then they did, and Bob got some pictures of them, the concert was good, I guess, although I don't like the band. After the concert I asked their band manager if they were going to sign autographs, and he said, yep, I'll make sure that you get to be in front of the line, and I said, thanks that sounds good. When it was time for them to finish the concert, I was wheeled in to where they were going to sign autographs, and got all of the band to sign my casts, it was great, all of them like stared at me and didn't say nothing, but the expressions on their faces said everything.
We took the 1 of the casts off, after it being on there for about 6 weeks, then I stood up and put some weight on my uncasted leg, and walked around slowly, getting my leg use to being used again. My knee was a little sore, from not using the muscles in so long. It took about a week for my knee to be comfortable again. Then I took my other cast off and once again my knee was sore from not being used. I put my shoes on and it sure felt weird having both shoes on after 7 weeks being in casts. I made a fiber slc on my left leg and wore, it around for about 2 weeks, 3 days after I put the slc on my left leg, I made a plaster slc on my right leg and wore that for about a week, had to take it off due to me walking on it, and the cast was wearing down, so I decided to cut it off. We ordered some glow in the dark fiber, and waited for it to come in. I planned to wear 2 new llwc's again...
